Edge – FSF

After a delay, I’m finally able to catch this week’s Five Sentence Fiction. This week’s prompt brings to mind one of my favorite sports: rock climbing. It may be a while since I was able to do much of it, but this person looks like they’re having a really great day.

Rock climber on ledge

Michael sat down on the edge to rest, enjoying seeing the eagles soaring on rising afternoon winds. The late spring sun warmed the rocks around him, taking the chill away from the shadows of the rocks. The city is more claustrophobic every year, filled with a different kind of mountains that take more than chalk to climb. After a quick bite of trail mix, he turned to resume his climb. In order to summit before dark, he’ll have to leave the sunny ledge, as well as his regrets, behind for now.
